I really enjoyed this bar. We had a grade school reunion here. There were 10 of us that have been friend for 35 years that met up there the other night and we had a blast. Old friends, great drinks and surprising very good food. We order tons of apps and all shared. My favorite was the prosciutto, fig and arugula pizza. It was devoured in seconds by us. Shrimp wontons and fish and chips were all very good. The chips and dip were great. I love salty chips. The drinks were superb I think we tried most of the specialty cocktails. My favorite was a drink that had Meyer's Rum, Krakken Rum, Pineapple, Triple-Sec and Sweet and Sour in it. YUMMO!!!! Waitress was okay we did have to hunt her down a few times. But other waiters and waitresses helped us out so we were good. We will be back.

I am stunned. The last time I was here the Moose left the impression on me that it was a typical bar in suburbia, with bar food and an ok atmosphere. As summer comes on, I've been pushing myself to retry places where I've had average experiences or get to places I still have not gotten to. I was very pleasantly surprised. I started the evening on the patio with a friend, drinking some Tank 7. We were catching up and were a bit hungry and ordered hummus and the chicken and shrimp curry (there is a small plates and a dinner version - I ordered the tapas size). I thought we had waited too long for our order but the mitigating circumstance was that it was the last night of groupon redemption (as we were told by our waiter). While I think that a restaurant should staff appropriately for nights like that, I think it was the food that really pushed me over the top. That curry, that curry is on par with anything you are going to find at Lulu's or Thai Place or any other non-Indian curry in town (for those who don't know, there is a difference between Asian and Indian curries, but that's for a different day :-). It was absolutely delicious and I'm pretty sure I scraped my plate. That curry alone should bring you here, but the lovely patio and good alcohol selection could keep you. If it only had a view of something other than the Macy's parking lot... :-)

I really like all the restaurants within the KC Hopps restaurant group. You can sometimes find similar items across their menus. They use quality ingredients and do the basics really well. I love the curried chicken salad and all their sandwiches. The apps are all great to share as well. There are drink specials almost every night. And they are good ones! And some last all day, not just for happy hour. Tuesday they have half-priced bottles of wine. Kinda dangerous, actually. Thursday serves dirt cheap draws and not just domestic either. The only thing I wish was better about this place is the patio. You have a lovely view of the Macy's parking lot and the Ripple glass collection bin. The patio on the other side has just been converted to an actual extension of the restaurant with windows that open, which is cool. This is a nice option for when you are sitting down for a full meal, but they don't let you go out there if you are just taking advantage of the drink specials. I still haven't tried this brunch thing. That will be next.

Never disappointing! Honestly, in the beginning I was shocked. I kept thinking it must be a fluke, that this place would be so good, but I've been very very impressed. Great beer great food, pretty good atmosphere. if you're going after 11, be very careful. The kitchen closes and what passes for late night food is not a credit in any way to the regular fare. I'm surprised this restaurant will allow 4 such a mediocre late night experience. That's the only reason it's not 5 stars.

My wife and I went to the Blue Moose Cafe for a birthday dinner. It was a Sunday evening around 5pm. The restaurant was not crowded and the service was very good. We started with the Slab Bacon Grits for an appetizer. These were unbelievable. The combination of slightly sweet relish glaze against the salty bacon commingling with the grits was fantastic. I rarely taste something and say "Wow". I did with this dish. We ordered an extra one to go. For the entree, I had the fish tacos which I enjoyed. They were tasty, flavorful and not fishy. My wife had the Land N Sea which she described as the best steak she has in a long time. The meat melted in your mouth. This was a nice experience and I would definitely recommend it.

Ugh. Horrible service on a Saturday night. Go figure you may be busy.. It is a Saturday night!! First was told the wait would be 20-30 minutes and it ended up as a 45 minute wait. That is fine we get it busy night. Then proceeded to be sat with our menus and waited another 12 minutes to have drink orders taken or even acknowledged by wait staff. And yes by that time we are watching the time that closely. We ordered food and drink at the same time because who knows when we will see the server again! Drinks brought in 10 minutes from the order. Salad brought out with no silverware to be had. Server stated she would bring it. Never came. After waiting quite awhile went and grabbed silverware off another table. Drinks empty no refills, food very average and in my opinion overpriced. We ordered the filet off of the healthy menu and BBQ pizza. Both left lots to be desired! Pizza was very crispy - had been way over cooked. Steak on both plates came out lukewarm. The tablespoon of mashed cauliflower was great however. We will not be back!

We went for lunch on a Saturday. The location was charming; the table was dirty (crusty, dried up, ikky dirty). Our waiter was perhaps a retired Hell's Angel. He had little personality. We ordered, then the manager came to ask how everything was... too bad she didn't check back later. I had a panini, it was fine. Dining partner had a small plate that cost a small fortune and turned out to be a clump of sticky spaghetti with three shrimp thrown on it... ew. We had a coupon that required we spend a certain amount, so ordered a piece of cake and coffee. German chocolatee cake sounded yummy... too bad it was left over, still cold out of the fridge. Our waiter wandered over to check on the dessert and I explained to him that I was disappointed that the cake was ice cold -- nearly frozen. His response: "OK" and he wandered off with our credit card to close the check. They made a fatal mistake of including a link for a survey on their receipt. I completed the survey and the manager sent me a $25 gift card to compensate, which I promptly gave to a friend for his birthday knowing he probably won't actually ever go there, but would still think I was pretty cool for getting him a $25 gift card. I sure as heck wasn't going to use it.

Blue Moose has some things going for it, and some going against it, which I've come to expect from the KC Hopps restaurant management group. All of their restaurants seem to be good, but flawed. The menu is pretty impressive for a bar/grill, so that's definitely a plus. We tried the jumbo lump crab cakes, and we were impressed. I expected a cake that was mostly filler, and small, hard-to-detect pieces of crab. Not so. The cake was predominantly giant lumps of crab--pieces that were big enough to see the meat flake apart when you cut into it. Based on the cakes, I thought we were in for a really good meal. I waffled back and forth between trying the Cuban and the fish 'n chips, because those are both dishes that I like to try whenever we go some place that has them. The Cuban won out based on my desire for sweet potato fries. The fries were excellent--the kind that don't need any condiments, but the sandwich was pretty lackluster as Cubans go. There wasn't nearly enough mustard or pickles, so the tang that typically compliments the richness of two kinds of pork was nonexistent. As a result, the sandwich was very one-note. Not helping anything was the fact that the roll hadn't been cut in half evenly, so one side was mushy and soggy, soaking up the juices from the sandwich, while the other side was hard and dry. My wife's meal--the fish tacos--looked pretty good, and I was tempted by the cheesy rice or risotto, but I refrained from trying it. Probably my loss, as it looked tasty. I should also note that Blue Moose has a "build your own" mac & cheese menu, with a base mac & cheese, and a host of ingredients--upscale and more standard--to add for a per-item price. You can add things like butter-poached lobster, braised pork belly, white truffle oil, roasted garlic and asparagus, to name a few of the great ingredients they offer. If I find myself at Blue Moose for dinner again, I will definitely have to try the custom mac & cheese. Desert was pretty unimpressive--we got the key lime pie, and it was sweet, but like the Cuban I had for dinner, it lacked tang. It was pretty bland, but key lime pie standards. I wish we had tried the "pick three" mini desserts instead. I'll close by saying the service wasn't bad, but also not terribly good. Our waitress didn't make any major mistakes, but was a little bit MIA in terms of making sure we had everything we needed, and seemed a bit absentminded, needing to come back to confirm what starter we ordered, and taking a great deal of time to get extra yellow mustard. I'll probably go back again, given that the place has an impressive menu and is pretty reasonably priced, but I think my experience would need to improve, even if only a little, to think about returning a third time.

You know those wind up toys that you turn the crank on the back of the figure, set them down and let them walk around in a crazy, confused stagger with no sense of purpose? Well that is what the staff at the Blue Moose resembles to me. I've been here a few times because of its location to my work and before The Tavern, Story, and Urban Table opened up, there weren't many other choices to pick from. I'm not the biggest fan of bar/grill combos but do appreciate that the sports ridden tv bar section is far removed from the warmer fireplace dining room. The food is decent bar food. It is really the staff that brings this place down. It's one of those places that you walk in and there are 3 to 5 people standing there with no intent to greet you but more than likely to make you feel like you have interrupted their conversation. After the confused hostess walks in circles trying to figure out where to put you, you are seated. Service is kind of all over the place. Literally and figuratively! 90 percent of the time upon leaving, no one says "thanks for coming in", "boo" , "get the hell out of here", nothing. It's usually 3 or 5 people standing around chatting. It always seems over staffed and like they have a *new* staff upon every visit. It's all very "meh"! Because of all of the new restaurants that have landed in this area, I can finally say goodbye to the illusive Blue Moose.

So, I've been to the blue moose about a dozen times...we live pretty close to the prairie village location. It always seems to be...ok. not wow, but ok. The curry chicken salad was good the last time we went, so we went again this past Saturday. It was a beautiful day and we thought we could sit outside, have a drink, and the curry chicken salad. But, there were SO many house flies!! The more I looked around, the more I realized (it was still daylight) that there was an open trash can too close to the outdoor patio, the seats, tables, and concrete needed to be washed down, people were moving because of the flies...it was bad. They should move the trash can first of all! Hose down the area everyday to keep it clean, and set out some candles to keep away the flies. We left ASAP.....

Visited for Sunday brunch. They have quite an impressive spread. 4 stars for the food 1 star for the service (it's brunch, it's not that hard!!!). Food: with brunch you get the choice of an omelet or eggs benedict (it should be called "egg" benedict because you only get one). I didn't have either but my fiance had the egg benedict which he enjoyed. They have quite a spread on the brunch buffet. Everything I had was good. Some highlights: spinach artichoke dip, chicken fingers (great seasoned breading that was light and there was a good amount of chicken. it wasn't one of those bulls--t "chicken" fingers that's mostly breading), chicken quesadillas and mac n cheese. Our service is the main reason for the 2 star rating. It wasn't that busy in there, our server only had 2 tables in our area. And it's brunch, all you have to do is refill water, fetch drinks, clear plates and bring the bill at the end. We waited over 20 minutes after we were done eating for our check. We made eye contact with the female manager 3 times and she didn't ever come over to the table, and our server was no where to be seen.

Eh. So, I am never wowed by Blue Moose. They are just Okay. I have been here a number of times over the past years and they never seem to get better than okay. Why, you may ask, do I keep going back? I am an eternal optimist... but more importantly, it is a convenient location for a number of friends of mine to meet for dinner or a few drinks on occasion. Their menu is okay, the service is usually barely okay, and if you have more than 4 people you should go somewhere else. The only redeeming thing this place has to offer, oddly enough, is the fried pickles. They are EXCELLENT. Never thought I would say that about fried pickles but - dang. I will also say that another positive is sitting outdoors during the summer. Getting out of the very dark interior of the restaurant is definitely a plus. Again, Eh.

I have been on a quest for fried pickles since first trying them in 1991 in Memphis at BB Kings blues bar. I have some recipes and can do my own as well. I have been told the Foundry and Knuckleheads both do fried pickles the right way, so they are bookmarked on my Yelp profile. Yeah, another reason to use this website, folks. ; ) So I had heard of the pickles here and ordered them plus a small salad for lunch. These long slices of pickles were battered in their fish-n-chips batter... which is quite good. And the pickles were good. My guess is Claussen, which is still the best store bought pickle outside of some boutique/local creation. The result of two good things was one well-above-average fried pickle. Crispy outside, pillow soft inside, but not slimy. Good seasoning throughout. Deeeelicious! The salad was okay, but iceberg lettuce is always a letdown. Service was friendly and attentive.

I've been here twice and both times I have had a good meal. This has been a good place to meet with a small group of people and visit over a meal. I was most recently here today for lunch and it was nice enough to sit outside and eat El Fresco. I ordered the Kobe Beef Burger and the waiter told me that they were out of Kobe Beef, so I was able to change my order without a lot of fuss, although I really was looking forward to trying Kobe Beef since I have never had Kobe beef, so that still remains on my 'to eat' list. My burger and sweet potato fries were excellent. My burger was juicy and the toppings fresh, including the 4 pickles. Since I like pickles, this was a plus. My dining companions today all had different food and it looked good. The portions were adequate and we were not pressured by wait staff to move on, and our beverages were kept full. Service was excellent.

I gave this a star simply because there was no way to put a minus on it. Shawnee Mission High School glory days (and probably a few glory holes) are what this place is. Pretentious and self serving menu, poorly motivated staff and mediocre food make this a place to avoid. Go to JJ's on Johnson Dr. or a dive bar, you'll be MUCH happier. I have nothing against anyone who went to Shawnee Mission High, but most of the people here went there when Christ was a corporal and it's time to stop living your past. You weren't as popular as you think you were, as a matter of fact, the bottle blond at the bar just said you were loose in high school....and that your poodle skirt was made by your grandmother... It's not horrible, but it's not worth the stop either. If you were dying of thirst and desperately needed a beer, you could do worse, just not much.

We came here for happy hour on Thursday. It was super crowded but we only had to wait a couple minutes to get a table. They had a heated/covered patio with plenty of extra seating. The happy hour special on Thursday is $1.50 beers and half price appetizers from 4-6. We were all starving so we ordered the wings, chicken nachos, spinach and artichoke dip, and steak quesadillas. All were hot and delicious for bar food appetizers. The steak quesadillas were definitely above average. I didn't do the beer special so I went for the Tuaca Lemon Drop martinis. Only $5 a piece and they were nicely made. The service was great as well.

Love the prairie village blue moose, have never had a bad experience here. I am particularly enjoying the Thai Noodle Steak Salad right now - super fresh and lots of flavor. Lots of drink options with a good beer selection. Tons of outdoor seating on the back and side patios. Choose your style of dining either in the bar area or more intimate restaurant side. Thursdays get super busy and it's more of a bar atmosphere due to the cheap beer special, so stay away from those nights if you're looking for a quicker and quiter meal.

The Blue Moose has always been a go-to spot for my friends and me to meet up due to proximity. We went because it was convenient and had great drink specials (wine Tuesday, beer Thursday). However, we always complained about the food and service. Thankfully the powers that be have resolved our issues. Ever since Taylor took over as manager the service has been awesome and the food is even better too. Clearly, the girl is doing something right. Now it's a great place to go for all reasons, not just because it's walking distance to our houses.

Just your average bar & grill. I'm even having a tough time writing this review because I'm already so bored to death. I have no rants and no raves. Went here for dinner with a friend and we sat on the patio. It's not the "best patio in KC" as one side overlooks a busy 71st Street while the other side overlooks a parking lot, all at ground level. Despite the tempting $1.50 beer special they had, my friend and I opted for girly drinks instead. They were ok, but at $7 each, we probably should have just stuck with beer. We ordered a few sharable appetizers between the two of us. Sidenote: On the menu, some of their appetizers are called "Tapas". Ok, Blue Moose, you are nowhere close to being Spanish, so it's just silly to call anything on your menu "tapas." Again, Blue Moose puts a fancy name on its menu to sell an idea that just isn't so. [Reference Pesto-Gate at the OP Blue Moose location]. Anyway, we had a few appetizers between the two of us: Baked Brie en Croute - Pretty impressive for a bar & grill joint. It was really good. Hummus Trio - Junk. Pasty, un-appetizing consistency. Couldn't tell the difference among the three flavors without looking at them. Chicken Pesto Pizza - Oh, hey, so you do know what pesto is? How about adding it to your Pesto Chicken Pasta?...the pizza was ok, chicken was dry, but the rest was delicious without it.

What a great little neighborhood place. If you live close, you'll find the Moose to be a great go-to place for carry-out, Sunday brunch or even a happy hour, especially for $1.50 beers every Thursday. Their food is handmade and nothing straight off of the Sysco truck. Try the nachos, fried pickles, chicken tenders, buffalo chicken wrap, turkey burger or the regular burger. Great beer selection to go along with great patios in the spring and summer. The fireplace area is also very cozy. Great staff with great service.

This place is pretty unique...the name is what go my attention and made me want to check it out. The atmosphere is really casual and makes for a great hang-out for beers or just for nice dinner. The curry chicken salad and the turkey pesto panini are both pretty good. The panini was a little greasy though. Our waitress noticed that I didn't eat all of it and came over to make sure everything was okay. I thought that was thoughtful-- but it wasn't so gross I didn't want to eat it at all. They have free wi-fi, which is getting more and more common in restaurants nowadays, but is still always a nice perk if I need to Yelp! :)

I know it is a matter of time and exposure before gluten-free and vegan diets become more mainstream, so I'm just doing my part to raise awareness. I would very much like to support local establishments that I can walk to, but it is difficult with only one or two ready menu items in almost all restaurants in The Village. My girlfriend and I are vegans, and we have eaten several times at the Blue Moose. There are some excellent salads that we order without cheese and a couple of delicious sides. Most of the dishes, however, are meat-centered. I have a suggestion for how to diversify a menu without complicating the chef or servers' jobs, or compromising the unique personality of a restaurant. In most Thai, Indian, Chinese and Japanese restaurants, all dishes can be made with the customer's choice of meat or tofu. This way, the unique spices, vegetables, grains and preparation styles are the dish features. Just a thought... I know that there are a number restaurants geared to our diets in the KC area; I just wish it were easier to order anywhere without being one of those picky menu-changing customers! I ate here once with a friend with Celiac's disease. She specifically asked if the sauce was gluten free and, if not, to just leave it off. The server said he would check but brought it with the sauce and didn't say anything. My friend ate the dish and was very sick later. Animal products are more easily identified than products with gluten, so we'll be back for drinks and veggies soon!

Definitely decent. I loved the artichoke bisque with its yummy goat cheese/blue cheese spread on top, but everything else was just alright. My sister loved that they have some vegetarian options, and eating hummus in a sports bar atmosphere is oddly enjoyable, but I felt largely underwhelmed. Kudos though for my buffalo chicken wrap having REAL chicken breast as opposed to some unappetizing, over-processed "tenders," whatever those actually are. If you are in the area, drive (maybe!) ten minutes across the state line to 75th Street Brewery in Waldo, a much better KC Hopps restaurant.

I can vouch for this place on a Thursday night - filled with people sampling any number of the 30 drafts or bottles that are special for a buck fifty. Seating is usually pretty tough to score if you arrive after 6, but you can usually snag a drink pretty quick. I've had the hummus trio which is served with crunchy-type pita chips, average. I've also had the Blue Moose Burger which is pretty damn good, great charbroil flavor and nicely portioned. Bull E. Vard translates this place perfectly from your mind to paper. It's your standard run of the mill KC Hopps run restaurant. I'll be back again on Thursday for some dollar50 smithwicks.

My hubbies friends LOVE this place and cheap beer Thursday. Unfortunately I think everyone in PV and beyond also loves cheap beer Thursday. If you can get there early enough to catch a table, this is your place. If you work until early evening, the cheap beer is not worth getting trampled by other patrons and evil-eyed by the servers for standing in their way.

I will preface this review by saying when I go out to eat I enjoy food that's unique, tasty, and something I can't recreate at home for half the price. I went to the Blue Moose for lunch today and won't be hurrying back any time soon. The food was fine but nothing wowed me. I agree with the previous reviews that the food is overpriced for the quality. Kind of a wannabe upscale Applebee's having an identity crisis. My friends and I started with the fried pickles, followed by the pecan encrusted goat cheese salad from their special season salad menu (say that 10 times fast). The pickles were good, but the salad sounds much fancier then it was. It was BATHED in the raspberry vinaigrette dressing. So fully drenched that once I finished the French chevre cheese and the fruit, I couldn't bring myself to eat the greens. I strongly advise ordering salad dressings on the side to prevent a perfectly ruined salad. The atmosphere was cute and I thought the fireplace gave the restaurant a nice homey feel. Might try it again for drinks and grub, but not for a casual sit down meal.

My kingdom for a Blue Moose Restaurant north of the river. We had the puff pastry brie appetizer/plate.Yum! My husband had the chicken and shrimp curry entree it comes in a Thai peanut sauce. I had to sneak a taste of that and it was delicious. I had the chicken curry salad with fresh fruit it was a little shy on the portion side of the chicken salad though I got plenty to eat. they had Bloody Mary and Mimosa specials for $3.50 that is a very reasonable price. Hubby had two Bloody Marys so I got elected to drive home and passed on the libations. I did have a virgin bloody mary because I like to try different mixes and it was a little spicy yet very tasty with the peppered rim glass, nice touch! We had to Creme Brulee for dessert , one order is perfect for two persons after this meal. We will be back. I have been disappointed in some KC Hopps Restaurant although this one gets an A+ and 5 Stars. If I had to find something wrong, I do not appreciate being ignored by the host/hostess when we are the only ones waiting to be seated. Just acknowledge me if you are busy, they were not! They had attitude and we were dressed better than 90% of the clientele. So whatever their problem was it has been told personally to the KC Hopps along with the high praise. Also if your hostess is going to clean tables and she can obviously wear whatever she wants ( a cute "short" frock) make sure when she bends down or over she does not hang out. How rude!

Not sure if it was a fluke or a change of policy, but our visit yesterday during the Chiefs game was a little disappointing because the Bloody Mary's no longer have the amazing garnish they once did ... instead they only have a small lime wedge. Since I've been to 75th Street Brewery, McCoy's, Barleys and River Market Brewery (in Wichita) I felt that I had a pretty good idea what I was gonna get at Blue Moose, a pretty good meal a couple of dollars more than I wanted to spend. I was half right on that guess. For some reason the hostess said she could only seat us in the bar (I was wearing Madras shorts and a t-shirt, I think she may have been looking to hide me) even though the restaurant was only half full. While I waited for DLC, most of the people going into The Blue Moose were either old or wearing a tie so dress a little better than I was if you want to sit in the restaurant. I don't care anyway, I don't need no fancy dinin' room you uppity PV snobs. We sat down at a fine booth at the far edge of the restaurant. Our waitress took our drink orders, a Coke for DLC and 75th Street Raspberry Wheat for me (I hear you snickering). They also had a couple of other 75th Street brews on tap at Blue Moose, so if you don't want to be bombarded with hipsters wearing t-shirts and jeans but still want a 75th Street beer, then Blue Moose is the place for you. When Erin brought out our drinks she casually mentioned that beers are $1.50 all day on Thursdays. Holy Zeus' beard! What a great special. I told her Thursdays are my work from home day but I may change that to my work from Blue Moose day. At $1.50 a beer I didn't have to feel guilty about having a second one (or third or fourth for that matter). I had a panini and DLC had some sort of a sandwich, I wasn't paying attention. I did hear him order fries and got chips instead. I thought the chips were an attractive side for my panini after Erin informed us that they are indeed fried at The Blue Moose and don't come from a bag marked Lay's. Some of the fries were even soft and undercooked the way they are when you fry them at home. Some people may be grossed out about that, but I kind of like it. Like most places in Johnson County, the interior of Blue Moose was corporaty*. If you dropped me in any bar & grill in Johnson County, I wouldn't be able to tell you which one I was at unless I saw a menu or signage. Blue Moose did have a blue moose head sticking out of the wall, but that was as distinctive as it got. *I called it, corporaty is mine. corporaty (adj.) - 1. of or feeling very corporate 2. sterile, unfeeling Overall, the Blue Moose is stunningly average but has great midweek specials and a friendly waitstaff. If you absolutely positively have to be in Prairie Village stop in for a drink. Even if you are across the state line, it would be worth your while to come over to Kansas for a while and enjoy a $1.50 pint or 3. That seems like a good Kansas slogan: Kansas, $1.50 Pints.

The food is decent, but kind of overpriced for what you get. Their motto should be "Bar Food At Restaurant Prices!" I couldn't really figure this place out. Sometimes I got the feeling it's supposed to be some kind of snooty bar and grill. It's hard to describe, but the atmosphere didn't seem relaxed, more like a restaurant. And yet, it's called a bar and grill. Maybe it's just because it's in Prairie Village? Anyway, not sure if I'll be back. As others have indicated, it's kind of out of the way if you don't live there, and those PV cops love hiding along Mission Rd. to pull you over for violating the speed limit. What's the speed limit there again? 20 mph? I think a guy on a golf cart passed me on the downhill part.

I've never eaten here. I've never enjoyed a beer here. I tried. God knows I tried. My wonderful wife and I stopped in here on a Sunday morning, it was early spring, just warm enough for me to not wear a jacket. As I've mentioned in earlier reviews, I have a lot of tattoos and can tell when I'm treated differently because of them. I was treated differently here. On second thought, that's not accurate. I wasn't treated at all. We were starving. We showed up at about 11:30 am. It was slow to say the least. The table full of cute college girls with aeropostle shirts seated twenty feet from us didn't seem to have any problem getting service. For some reason, myself and the lovely woman I've been married to for almost six years received no service. I like to stress that we've been married for so long, and are completely devoted to our daughter because while I may not look like a wholesome 28 year old feller, I am a devoted family man. Anyway, we were seated immediately, but were never approached by anyone about food, or even water for that matter. Saddam Husein got all the Doritos he wanted when he was imprisoned. Two tax paying, home owning Kansas City natives were denied any kind of sustenance, in this restaurant. After about ten minutes of blaring, soulless pop music, and absolutely no sign of food in our near future, we both thought it best to leave. I'm not above making a scene, and it was almost showtime baby. We started walking out, and as we passed the hostess station, which oddly enough was surrounded by waitstaff, we were given a chorus of sarcastic "Have a nice day," and "Thanks for stopping by", Don't go here. I'm not saying boycott the entire KC HOPS line of restaurants. We live within spitting distance of the 75 street brewery and went there right after this incident and had a lovely lunch. The irony of leaving one KC Hops restaurant in disgust, and going directly to another one did not escape us. We just love 75 st brewery that much. So if you are in any way what might be considered an individual don't go here. If you are the kind of person who frequently shops at the mall, wears their hat backwards, or has ever considered themself a frat guy or a sorority chick this is your new spot. Not to say that 75 st brewery isn't full of frat guys, but the service there is better, and the beer is fresher.

The Moose is truly a hidden gem in Prairie Village. Sure, it seems like a local-owned typical family restaurant but man, its so much better than that. Think Applebee's prices with way, way better food. My favorite thing on the menu of all is the Jammin' Salmon - blackened salmon with black beans and chipotle rice. Its delicious and just spicy enough to be interesting without being overdone. I could eat that meal every day. On the salad side, make sure to check out the salmon salad. If you're not a salmon person, just get a spinach salad. Why? Because the strawberry poppy seed dressing is incredible. The pizza is also scrumptious - there aren't a whole lot of places in Kansas City with better pizza, even if its only a small part of the menu. Don't miss the BBQ pizza. The burgers, sandwiches and apps are all pretty darn good as well and prices are very reasonable - nothing is really over $20. Great bar specials too - I love the Moose. Disclaimer: I worked at the Moose for 1 1/2 years. Even though I spent a lot of hours there, I still love the food and would eat it anytime - I think that says a lot.

I love the Blue Moose because it is close - there aren't a lot of restaurants in the north PV area - so this becomes the logical choice. A lot of other locals feel the same way, so this place can get rather crowded - especially on Thursdays when they offer great beer specials. Aside from the location appeal, the bar food is actually good. The turkey pesto panini is my favorite. Another great special they have is $5 pizza lunches on Thursdays. There is also a nice size bar area for the late-night crowd.

I've been to this restaurant possibly more than any other in KC, as others have mentioned, it is pretty much the only restaurant in about a 5 square mile area. Well there is an Applebees but that is IT. So whenever I find myself in the 5 square mile dead zone, this is the place I head to. Lucky for me, its really good. Everything I have tried on the menu is good to very good. My favorite is probably the Greek Chicken wrap. Extremely flavorful and the spinach wrap lets me pretend I'm eating something healthy even though the sauce and cheese have a fat content somewhere close to lard. This restaurant has the most consistently good service of any restaurant I have been to. I have never had even a slightly bad wait staff experience. The weeknight specials are also great. I think Tuesday is 10 dollar bottle of wine night. If you find yourself with a large group and don't have to work on Wednesday, it can get ....interesting. The other specials are pretty good too. Inside is kind of dark, but not too dark. The decor I guess is upscale sports bar. There are TV's up on the ceiling everywhere, but they turn them down unless is it an obvious game time. Everything is very clean and nice. So some 4-stars I have given I hesitate to suggest to people just because something might have impressed me, but may not be for everyone. In this case, I can definitely suggest going here if you have the chance.

They kept our drinks filled and the wait for the food was not bad (my friend did a headstand while we waited, so that was fun). They served our table of kids first--good idea. My Superfood Kale Salad was fresh and inventive--truly a SUPERFOOD & just as the Yelp review promised, the Mashed Cauliflower was creamy delicious.

Gathered here Thursday evening with colleagues and students for dinner and conversation. The food was delicious, portion sizes were generous and wait staff was cordial and attentive. BOO the BLUE MOOSE! This was my second time at the Blue Moose and I suggested to my husband that we go there while visiting family in Kansas City. It was a total disappointment. The service was very poor and the food was mediocre at best. I asked for my sandwich (three little piggies?) without pickle and the first thing I tasted when I bit into the sandwich - that's right, pickle. There were no options for non-carbonated, caffeine free drinks, so my husband had plain water. Although I had iced tea, it was only one glass and the waitress never came by to offer a refill (maybe there aren't refills). I was even surprised that when she came by to see if we wanted dessert, there was no opportunity to see if I wanted another. What is really disappointing is that this is one of my sister's favorite restaurants and she works in the area so next time I visit, she may want to go here.

Growing up in Prairie Village, we used to visit the Blue Moose as a family frequently. Something has happened to this family-friendly restaurant, and I really don't like the change. The menu has changed significantly to a lot of carb-heavy and cream-heavy dishes that are underwhelming. The service last time I went here was possibly the worst I've ever had. It took an HOUR for my panini to come out of the kitchen. I miss the old Blue Moose!

Service was good. Kinda pricey for lunch. 4 people was over $80. Pretty decent chicken and shrimp curry dish but they were skimpy with the rice. Wife loves their crab cake burger. Only odd/downer kinda thing is they charged me for asking for some bread with my dish. Really?!? An extra 50 cents on a $80 ticket!?! Consistently good food and great service makes the Blue Moose one of our favorite spots to drop in on nights we don't want to cook! I don't think I've ever had anything I didn't like here. I will give big shout outs for their soups and salads; they're always amazing. On our last visit I had the tortilla soup and a salad, a great combo. My husband sticks on the sandwich side of the menu and highly recommends the salmon club.

Went there for brunch with my family on Sunday. They had a huge selection and everything tasted delicious and fresh. You were also able to create your own omelet made to order! The Blue Moose is only alright. It's not so "bad" that I'd give them less than 3 stars, but it's also certainly not good enough to deserve anything more than that. We occasionally end up here because it's reasonably close to our house, and because we have a ton of points that we accrued at the (now closed) O'Dowd's in Zona Rosa that we are slowly spending, which makes for some cheap (free) drinks/meals. That's a big plus for the Moose, but when those points are gone, I can't see us stopping in very often. I always feel "meh" about the menu. Occasionally it takes me AGES to decide on something, anything, to eat, as nothing on the menu really stands out to me. Usually I go with the small cranberry & walnut salad and add some salmon; maybe get a side of fries. On our last visit, I branched out and ordered fish and chips, and I really wish I hadn't. I didn't think it was possible to screw up fish and chips, but Blue Moose managed - the fish was way over battered, everything was over-fried, and I finally ended up freeing my fish from its batter-y prison and attempting to make the best of things. Even my husband said the batter was way over-done (both over cooked and over battered), and that the fish tasted "watery". My husband usually gets the wings, which he likes well enough, and we've also had the nachos, which are decent. If the Moose was able to screw up nachos, that would be the ultimate deal breaker!! The mimosas on Sunday aren't bad, and their wine pours are decent, though sometimes the white wines are basically room temperature, which is not how I prefer my wines. Service has always been adequate, if not very friendly or enthusiastic, and if you sit in the bar, there's pretty much always a game on. In fact, I've never sat anywhere OTHER than the bar, as the other half of the place seems like a family friendly restaurant, which doesn't really appeal to me. The patio looks nice for warm weather visits, but it does also contribute to a large number of flies (both regular and the fruit variety) in the bar area. Obviously, this is to be expected if outdoor dining is an option, but the sheer number of flies we've seen inside on multiple occasions does warrant a mention. So, there you have it. The Blue Moose is alright for an occasional visit, especially if you're spending points, but it's not somewhere I would suggest for an amazingly fun time out.

I went here to flirt with a cute guy I know who works there. So to be fair I wasn't expecting anything in particular. I'd recommend this place if you were shopping in the area, but don't go out of your way. Our server was definitely having a bad day, so it doesn't seem fair to judge our experience based on her furrowed brow and the bottle she shattered while taking our order hurriedly. The service in general did reek of a corporate atmosphere; stodgy manager with microphone coming over to ask if we'd received our spinach salad yet. If it's not on the table, probably not. Things took a little too long but the food was good. I enjoyed simple fare: chicken fingers and fries, but my spinach salad with strawberry vinagrette was delicious and refreshingly free of bacon and the usual trappings of a spinach salad. I can see what people meant about it's image being a little confusing. Is it a relaxing bar? Is it a fancy restaurant? The answer would be somewhere in between it seems. At least they had lots of Boulevard signs and Boulevard beers! I'd go back to this place to try the Artichoke Bisque next time i'm in good ol' Prairie Village. But I still think PV has nothing on KC eats. Sorry!

I live in the neighborhood around the Moose, so this review is based on about 5 years of experience. I rarely head to the Blue Moose for lunch, but have enjoyed dinner and the brunch many times. Thursday drink specials are great, and popular, but I don't typically stick around when it gets too packed. The waitstaff get to know everyone that come in as often as we do, and they take excellent care of us. My favorite items are the salads, and the grilled chicken sandwich. During brunch I tend to just hit the buffet, rather than waiting in line. While the desserts and sweet things are not at all compelling, the solid breakfast fare is what I am looking for on a Sunday morning.

Went to Blue Moose for the first time tonight based off a friends recommendation. The 3 1/2 stars on Yelp kinda had me worried. But this place was very much worth at least four stars. Got there about 5:00 and got seated right away. Service was good during the whole visit, even after the place got filled up. Took advantage of happy hour and got half price fried pickles and drinks. Food: very good. The fried pickles were great. I had the three little pigs sandwich and it was really good. So were the fries. Drinks: well, drink rather. My friend suggested I get one of their specialty drinks called the Black Tie Affair. Man, that thing was good! Especially at half price. I ended up getting two of them and was feeling them pretty quick. I tasted a few fruits in there. I don't know what all it had, but it was really good. All in all this place was really great. Cool atmosphere, good service and really good things that go in my mouth.

I usually ate here because it was close. They switched up their menu recently and that actually greatly improved their food offerings, which before were like lackluster apps and sandwiches. So in the olden days, we'd only come for a drink and then eat some place else. That being said the new food is good, but it's being served from the same old location and the two don't really mesh well. Food aside, they do have great drink deals most nights of the week and being walking distance from a lot of places in PV made this place an easy and fun place to just hang out.
I'm very happy they have me two forks so I could use one as my iced tea spoon. I used to do radio ads for this place. It hasn't changed much. The host and server would rather be somewhere else. The menu is pretty standard restaurant fare, nothing spectacular. My wife ordered the Mac and cheese and added some veggies, I ordered the chicken fingers because we're both apparently eight years old. The food was pretty good. I would give this three and a half stars and would go higher but for the amateur aspects of service.

After several years of no visits to this Blue Moose, a friend and I decided to hit it up for a change in our social travelings. I was not very excited, as I don't much care for the Prairie Village atmosphere, but we had a great evening. First, the venue itself is very warm and homey. A fireplace is always a hit with me, and the tables are placed so that if you sit in the main dining area, you kind of feel like you're in your home. The tables are spread out so that you have your own area with your group. There is also a side room (which I remembered being more of a patio, but it is now finished) that can accommodate a couple of larger groups if you need that. Finally, my favorite area is the bar. Well, the bar is generally my favorite area, but this one is warm and intimate. This Moose has about ten tap selections, none of them exciting, all of them expected in KC . . .Free State, Blvd, KC Bier, New Belgium products. The beer menu was not up to date at all, so I had to get up and go look at the tap handles to figure out what I could have. What we ate: We had a grits and slab bacon appetizer that was buttery, fatty, and decadent. I tried one teeny bite because I figured it would ruin my appetite if I had more; it was that rich! For my entree, I had a short rib grilled cheese with ghost pepperjack cheese and some kind of jam. While it was delicious, I think it was kind of small for the $12 I paid. I expected more even though I didn't need more. For dessert we had a butter cookie, and was it ever loaded with butter! Once again, decadent, and I only had one small bite. Our server, Jesse, was spot on with recommendations and service. Five stars for him! Overall, my experience was enjoyable. I was very happy that on a Saturday evening at 8 pm, the families with kids had cleared out. I am glad I gave Blue Moose another try, as I think this will be put back into our rotation of places to eat and drink.

This place is fine. Nothing so good that I have to return every day, but it's definitely higher than average on most people's standards scale. The wait staff is great; knowledgeable and kind. I will definitely return. Especially when Hunter is there. He's the bartender during the week and he's a baller. I came here with my mom and toddler and it was great. A popular spot especially for happy hour on a Friday, but still super family friendly. We got nachos and cauliflower wings. The nachos were awesome. The cauliflower wings were good, but were sitting in a pool of grease. My toddler got a burger from the kids menu which she didn't like (more of an adult tasting burger), but our waiter was happy to give us Mac and cheese as a (free) replacement. We selected Blue Moose specifically because of its Restaurant Week menu. We arrived at 11:45am on Monday (just 3 days into the special) only to learn that they were already out of the shrimp and grits. The Bánh mì sandwich description failed to mention it was covered in cilantro and didn't contain any jalapeños, which WAS listed in the description. The service was slow and mediocre, which has been a trend our last few times here. The food is ok, but there's always an issue with something every time we come here. KC has too many great restaurants now to tolerate below average fare, poor management and inattentive service - spend your money elsewhere and leave satisfied and happy (the way eating out should be)!

This is the worst experience I have ever had here. First, one of the martini glasses had a chip, the waiter failed to notice, when it was clearly obvious. I got salt on my drink rim when it clearly says in the menu it's sugar. I waited for about 15 minutes just for him to come outside. The waiter wasn't personable and very inattentive. We were served more by other waiters, then our own. A manager never came out and we never received an apology once, I will never come back here.

This was some of the worst service I've ever had. We had a party of about ten, so we made sure to call ahead and let them know we were coming. When we get there at 11:05 I tried to order off of their "Late Night" Menu. Which is supposed to go from 11:00-Close. I was then informed that they had already turned the oven off. I could either have humus or chips and salsa. The server was EXTREMELY rude. Since having customers in the establishment is clearly only an inconvenience for your servers, don't worry about my business coming back.

I ate here for lunch today and it was great! I had never been before and met here for business. The restaurant was pretty full, but the noise level was still low which was really nice. Our server was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. I had the build your own mac and cheese with grilled chicken added. The mac and cheese was awesome, and I am very picky! The grilled chicken was well seasoned, well cooked and had great flavor. Also, it was cut into small strips which made it much easier to eat(vs other places that put a whole chicken piece in your bowl for you to figure out how to cut). My coworker had the turkey burger and had a side of mashed cauliflower. She went on and on about how good the cauliflower was. She said it is the best she has had. She also enjoyed her turkey burger. Another person with us had the tortilla soup, and she nearly licked her bowl clean she liked it so much. She said it was excellent. The manager(I believe) stopped by our table to see how things were going also. She was very nice, and I appreciate that she took the time to stop by. She even cleared some plates that we had recently finished. I don't live very close, but next time I am in the area I will be coming back! Four stars vs 5 because I will only give 5 to places I have had several good experiences at(ie I must have visited more than once). With more visits like this one I would easily change my review to 5 stars.

Good food but terrible service. Ordered entrees & salad. Waited forever. Finally flagged down a woman who said she was the hostess . She said she would bring salad. More waiting. Finally ENTREES showed up. Still no salad. Flagged down hostess again & told her to cancel salad. Manager stopped by & apologized. There are too many good restaurants in this area to go back to the Blue Moose again. The sad thing is that this is a locally owned restaurant and we go out of our way to patronized locally owned places but we are giving up on the Blue Moose.

Let's just say it'll do in a pinch. Six of us stopped in for a quick bite and the different menu items got different ratings. The salad with chicken got a thumbs up, the burgers were mediocre (too dry and the buns are simply awful) though the tomatoes, onions , lettuce were very fresh, the fries were good and not over salted or greasy, the beer selection was good and our server was excellent. Interestingly, the place was not full at 8:00 p.m. on a Saturday night but it may have been baseball related. K.C. Was playing and many probably stayed home to watch with a pizza delivery. For most of us, it wouldn't be worth a second visit. Killed by thick, dry, cold burger buns. A shame.

I really enjoyed this bar. We had a grade school reunion here. There were 10 of us that have been friend for 35 years that met up there the other night and we had a blast. Old friends, great drinks and surprising very good food. We order tons of apps and all shared. My favorite was the prosciutto, fig and arugula pizza. It was devoured in seconds by us. Shrimp wontons and fish and chips were all very good. The chips and dip were great. I love salty chips. The drinks were superb I think we tried most of the specialty cocktails. My favorite was a drink that had Meyer's Rum, Krakken Rum, Pineapple, Triple-Sec and Sweet and Sour in it. YUMMO!!!! Waitress was okay we did have to hunt her down a few times. But other waiters and waitresses helped us out so we were good. We will be back.

I am stunned. The last time I was here the Moose left the impression on me that it was a typical bar in suburbia, with bar food and an ok atmosphere. As summer comes on, I've been pushing myself to retry places where I've had average experiences or get to places I still have not gotten to. I was very pleasantly surprised. I started the evening on the patio with a friend, drinking some Tank 7. We were catching up and were a bit hungry and ordered hummus and the chicken and shrimp curry (there is a small plates and a dinner version - I ordered the tapas size). I thought we had waited too long for our order but the mitigating circumstance was that it was the last night of groupon redemption (as we were told by our waiter). While I think that a restaurant should staff appropriately for nights like that, I think it was the food that really pushed me over the top. That curry, that curry is on par with anything you are going to find at Lulu's or Thai Place or any other non-Indian curry in town (for those who don't know, there is a difference between Asian and Indian curries, but that's for a different day :-). It was absolutely delicious and I'm pretty sure I scraped my plate. That curry alone should bring you here, but the lovely patio and good alcohol selection could keep you. If it only had a view of something other than the Macy's parking lot... :-)

I really like all the restaurants within the KC Hopps restaurant group. You can sometimes find similar items across their menus. They use quality ingredients and do the basics really well. I love the curried chicken salad and all their sandwiches. The apps are all great to share as well. There are drink specials almost every night. And they are good ones! And some last all day, not just for happy hour. Tuesday they have half-priced bottles of wine. Kinda dangerous, actually. Thursday serves dirt cheap draws and not just domestic either. The only thing I wish was better about this place is the patio. You have a lovely view of the Macy's parking lot and the Ripple glass collection bin. The patio on the other side has just been converted to an actual extension of the restaurant with windows that open, which is cool. This is a nice option for when you are sitting down for a full meal, but they don't let you go out there if you are just taking advantage of the drink specials. I still haven't tried this brunch thing. That will be next.

Never disappointing! Honestly, in the beginning I was shocked. I kept thinking it must be a fluke, that this place would be so good, but I've been very very impressed. Great beer great food, pretty good atmosphere. if you're going after 11, be very careful. The kitchen closes and what passes for late night food is not a credit in any way to the regular fare. I'm surprised this restaurant will allow 4 such a mediocre late night experience. That's the only reason it's not 5 stars.

My wife and I went to the Blue Moose Cafe for a birthday dinner. It was a Sunday evening around 5pm. The restaurant was not crowded and the service was very good. We started with the Slab Bacon Grits for an appetizer. These were unbelievable. The combination of slightly sweet relish glaze against the salty bacon commingling with the grits was fantastic. I rarely taste something and say "Wow". I did with this dish. We ordered an extra one to go. For the entree, I had the fish tacos which I enjoyed. They were tasty, flavorful and not fishy. My wife had the Land N Sea which she described as the best steak she has in a long time. The meat melted in your mouth. This was a nice experience and I would definitely recommend it.

Ugh. Horrible service on a Saturday night. Go figure you may be busy.. It is a Saturday night!! First was told the wait would be 20-30 minutes and it ended up as a 45 minute wait. That is fine we get it busy night. Then proceeded to be sat with our menus and waited another 12 minutes to have drink orders taken or even acknowledged by wait staff. And yes by that time we are watching the time that closely. We ordered food and drink at the same time because who knows when we will see the server again! Drinks brought in 10 minutes from the order. Salad brought out with no silverware to be had. Server stated she would bring it. Never came. After waiting quite awhile went and grabbed silverware off another table. Drinks empty no refills, food very average and in my opinion overpriced. We ordered the filet off of the healthy menu and BBQ pizza. Both left lots to be desired! Pizza was very crispy - had been way over cooked. Steak on both plates came out lukewarm. The tablespoon of mashed cauliflower was great however. We will not be back!

We went for lunch on a Saturday. The location was charming; the table was dirty (crusty, dried up, ikky dirty). Our waiter was perhaps a retired Hell's Angel. He had little personality. We ordered, then the manager came to ask how everything was... too bad she didn't check back later. I had a panini, it was fine. Dining partner had a small plate that cost a small fortune and turned out to be a clump of sticky spaghetti with three shrimp thrown on it... ew. We had a coupon that required we spend a certain amount, so ordered a piece of cake and coffee. German chocolatee cake sounded yummy... too bad it was left over, still cold out of the fridge. Our waiter wandered over to check on the dessert and I explained to him that I was disappointed that the cake was ice cold -- nearly frozen. His response: "OK" and he wandered off with our credit card to close the check. They made a fatal mistake of including a link for a survey on their receipt. I completed the survey and the manager sent me a $25 gift card to compensate, which I promptly gave to a friend for his birthday knowing he probably won't actually ever go there, but would still think I was pretty cool for getting him a $25 gift card. I sure as heck wasn't going to use it.

Blue Moose has some things going for it, and some going against it, which I've come to expect from the KC Hopps restaurant management group. All of their restaurants seem to be good, but flawed. The menu is pretty impressive for a bar/grill, so that's definitely a plus. We tried the jumbo lump crab cakes, and we were impressed. I expected a cake that was mostly filler, and small, hard-to-detect pieces of crab. Not so. The cake was predominantly giant lumps of crab--pieces that were big enough to see the meat flake apart when you cut into it. Based on the cakes, I thought we were in for a really good meal. I waffled back and forth between trying the Cuban and the fish 'n chips, because those are both dishes that I like to try whenever we go some place that has them. The Cuban won out based on my desire for sweet potato fries. The fries were excellent--the kind that don't need any condiments, but the sandwich was pretty lackluster as Cubans go. There wasn't nearly enough mustard or pickles, so the tang that typically compliments the richness of two kinds of pork was nonexistent. As a result, the sandwich was very one-note. Not helping anything was the fact that the roll hadn't been cut in half evenly, so one side was mushy and soggy, soaking up the juices from the sandwich, while the other side was hard and dry. My wife's meal--the fish tacos--looked pretty good, and I was tempted by the cheesy rice or risotto, but I refrained from trying it. Probably my loss, as it looked tasty. I should also note that Blue Moose has a "build your own" mac & cheese menu, with a base mac & cheese, and a host of ingredients--upscale and more standard--to add for a per-item price. You can add things like butter-poached lobster, braised pork belly, white truffle oil, roasted garlic and asparagus, to name a few of the great ingredients they offer. If I find myself at Blue Moose for dinner again, I will definitely have to try the custom mac & cheese. Desert was pretty unimpressive--we got the key lime pie, and it was sweet, but like the Cuban I had for dinner, it lacked tang. It was pretty bland, but key lime pie standards. I wish we had tried the "pick three" mini desserts instead. I'll close by saying the service wasn't bad, but also not terribly good. Our waitress didn't make any major mistakes, but was a little bit MIA in terms of making sure we had everything we needed, and seemed a bit absentminded, needing to come back to confirm what starter we ordered, and taking a great deal of time to get extra yellow mustard. I'll probably go back again, given that the place has an impressive menu and is pretty reasonably priced, but I think my experience would need to improve, even if only a little, to think about returning a third time.

You know those wind up toys that you turn the crank on the back of the figure, set them down and let them walk around in a crazy, confused stagger with no sense of purpose? Well that is what the staff at the Blue Moose resembles to me. I've been here a few times because of its location to my work and before The Tavern, Story, and Urban Table opened up, there weren't many other choices to pick from. I'm not the biggest fan of bar/grill combos but do appreciate that the sports ridden tv bar section is far removed from the warmer fireplace dining room. The food is decent bar food. It is really the staff that brings this place down. It's one of those places that you walk in and there are 3 to 5 people standing there with no intent to greet you but more than likely to make you feel like you have interrupted their conversation. After the confused hostess walks in circles trying to figure out where to put you, you are seated. Service is kind of all over the place. Literally and figuratively! 90 percent of the time upon leaving, no one says "thanks for coming in", "boo" , "get the hell out of here", nothing. It's usually 3 or 5 people standing around chatting. It always seems over staffed and like they have a *new* staff upon every visit. It's all very "meh"! Because of all of the new restaurants that have landed in this area, I can finally say goodbye to the illusive Blue Moose.

So, I've been to the blue moose about a dozen times...we live pretty close to the prairie village location. It always seems to be...ok. not wow, but ok. The curry chicken salad was good the last time we went, so we went again this past Saturday. It was a beautiful day and we thought we could sit outside, have a drink, and the curry chicken salad. But, there were SO many house flies!! The more I looked around, the more I realized (it was still daylight) that there was an open trash can too close to the outdoor patio, the seats, tables, and concrete needed to be washed down, people were moving because of the flies...it was bad. They should move the trash can first of all! Hose down the area everyday to keep it clean, and set out some candles to keep away the flies. We left ASAP.....

Visited for Sunday brunch. They have quite an impressive spread. 4 stars for the food 1 star for the service (it's brunch, it's not that hard!!!). Food: with brunch you get the choice of an omelet or eggs benedict (it should be called "egg" benedict because you only get one). I didn't have either but my fiance had the egg benedict which he enjoyed. They have quite a spread on the brunch buffet. Everything I had was good. Some highlights: spinach artichoke dip, chicken fingers (great seasoned breading that was light and there was a good amount of chicken. it wasn't one of those bulls--t "chicken" fingers that's mostly breading), chicken quesadillas and mac n cheese. Our service is the main reason for the 2 star rating. It wasn't that busy in there, our server only had 2 tables in our area. And it's brunch, all you have to do is refill water, fetch drinks, clear plates and bring the bill at the end. We waited over 20 minutes after we were done eating for our check. We made eye contact with the female manager 3 times and she didn't ever come over to the table, and our server was no where to be seen.

Eh. So, I am never wowed by Blue Moose. They are just Okay. I have been here a number of times over the past years and they never seem to get better than okay. Why, you may ask, do I keep going back? I am an eternal optimist... but more importantly, it is a convenient location for a number of friends of mine to meet for dinner or a few drinks on occasion. Their menu is okay, the service is usually barely okay, and if you have more than 4 people you should go somewhere else. The only redeeming thing this place has to offer, oddly enough, is the fried pickles. They are EXCELLENT. Never thought I would say that about fried pickles but - dang. I will also say that another positive is sitting outdoors during the summer. Getting out of the very dark interior of the restaurant is definitely a plus. Again, Eh.

I have been on a quest for fried pickles since first trying them in 1991 in Memphis at BB Kings blues bar. I have some recipes and can do my own as well. I have been told the Foundry and Knuckleheads both do fried pickles the right way, so they are bookmarked on my Yelp profile. Yeah, another reason to use this website, folks. ; ) So I had heard of the pickles here and ordered them plus a small salad for lunch. These long slices of pickles were battered in their fish-n-chips batter... which is quite good. And the pickles were good. My guess is Claussen, which is still the best store bought pickle outside of some boutique/local creation. The result of two good things was one well-above-average fried pickle. Crispy outside, pillow soft inside, but not slimy. Good seasoning throughout. Deeeelicious! The salad was okay, but iceberg lettuce is always a letdown. Service was friendly and attentive.

I've been here twice and both times I have had a good meal. This has been a good place to meet with a small group of people and visit over a meal. I was most recently here today for lunch and it was nice enough to sit outside and eat El Fresco. I ordered the Kobe Beef Burger and the waiter told me that they were out of Kobe Beef, so I was able to change my order without a lot of fuss, although I really was looking forward to trying Kobe Beef since I have never had Kobe beef, so that still remains on my 'to eat' list. My burger and sweet potato fries were excellent. My burger was juicy and the toppings fresh, including the 4 pickles. Since I like pickles, this was a plus. My dining companions today all had different food and it looked good. The portions were adequate and we were not pressured by wait staff to move on, and our beverages were kept full. Service was excellent.

I gave this a star simply because there was no way to put a minus on it. Shawnee Mission High School glory days (and probably a few glory holes) are what this place is. Pretentious and self serving menu, poorly motivated staff and mediocre food make this a place to avoid. Go to JJ's on Johnson Dr. or a dive bar, you'll be MUCH happier. I have nothing against anyone who went to Shawnee Mission High, but most of the people here went there when Christ was a corporal and it's time to stop living your past. You weren't as popular as you think you were, as a matter of fact, the bottle blond at the bar just said you were loose in high school....and that your poodle skirt was made by your grandmother... It's not horrible, but it's not worth the stop either. If you were dying of thirst and desperately needed a beer, you could do worse, just not much.

We came here for happy hour on Thursday. It was super crowded but we only had to wait a couple minutes to get a table. They had a heated/covered patio with plenty of extra seating. The happy hour special on Thursday is $1.50 beers and half price appetizers from 4-6. We were all starving so we ordered the wings, chicken nachos, spinach and artichoke dip, and steak quesadillas. All were hot and delicious for bar food appetizers. The steak quesadillas were definitely above average. I didn't do the beer special so I went for the Tuaca Lemon Drop martinis. Only $5 a piece and they were nicely made. The service was great as well.

Love the prairie village blue moose, have never had a bad experience here. I am particularly enjoying the Thai Noodle Steak Salad right now - super fresh and lots of flavor. Lots of drink options with a good beer selection. Tons of outdoor seating on the back and side patios. Choose your style of dining either in the bar area or more intimate restaurant side. Thursdays get super busy and it's more of a bar atmosphere due to the cheap beer special, so stay away from those nights if you're looking for a quicker and quiter meal.

The Blue Moose has always been a go-to spot for my friends and me to meet up due to proximity. We went because it was convenient and had great drink specials (wine Tuesday, beer Thursday). However, we always complained about the food and service. Thankfully the powers that be have resolved our issues. Ever since Taylor took over as manager the service has been awesome and the food is even better too. Clearly, the girl is doing something right. Now it's a great place to go for all reasons, not just because it's walking distance to our houses.

Just your average bar & grill. I'm even having a tough time writing this review because I'm already so bored to death. I have no rants and no raves. Went here for dinner with a friend and we sat on the patio. It's not the "best patio in KC" as one side overlooks a busy 71st Street while the other side overlooks a parking lot, all at ground level. Despite the tempting $1.50 beer special they had, my friend and I opted for girly drinks instead. They were ok, but at $7 each, we probably should have just stuck with beer. We ordered a few sharable appetizers between the two of us. Sidenote: On the menu, some of their appetizers are called "Tapas". Ok, Blue Moose, you are nowhere close to being Spanish, so it's just silly to call anything on your menu "tapas." Again, Blue Moose puts a fancy name on its menu to sell an idea that just isn't so. [Reference Pesto-Gate at the OP Blue Moose location]. Anyway, we had a few appetizers between the two of us: Baked Brie en Croute - Pretty impressive for a bar & grill joint. It was really good. Hummus Trio - Junk. Pasty, un-appetizing consistency. Couldn't tell the difference among the three flavors without looking at them. Chicken Pesto Pizza - Oh, hey, so you do know what pesto is? How about adding it to your Pesto Chicken Pasta?...the pizza was ok, chicken was dry, but the rest was delicious without it.

What a great little neighborhood place. If you live close, you'll find the Moose to be a great go-to place for carry-out, Sunday brunch or even a happy hour, especially for $1.50 beers every Thursday. Their food is handmade and nothing straight off of the Sysco truck. Try the nachos, fried pickles, chicken tenders, buffalo chicken wrap, turkey burger or the regular burger. Great beer selection to go along with great patios in the spring and summer. The fireplace area is also very cozy. Great staff with great service.

This place is pretty unique...the name is what go my attention and made me want to check it out. The atmosphere is really casual and makes for a great hang-out for beers or just for nice dinner. The curry chicken salad and the turkey pesto panini are both pretty good. The panini was a little greasy though. Our waitress noticed that I didn't eat all of it and came over to make sure everything was okay. I thought that was thoughtful-- but it wasn't so gross I didn't want to eat it at all. They have free wi-fi, which is getting more and more common in restaurants nowadays, but is still always a nice perk if I need to Yelp! :)

I know it is a matter of time and exposure before gluten-free and vegan diets become more mainstream, so I'm just doing my part to raise awareness. I would very much like to support local establishments that I can walk to, but it is difficult with only one or two ready menu items in almost all restaurants in The Village. My girlfriend and I are vegans, and we have eaten several times at the Blue Moose. There are some excellent salads that we order without cheese and a couple of delicious sides. Most of the dishes, however, are meat-centered. I have a suggestion for how to diversify a menu without complicating the chef or servers' jobs, or compromising the unique personality of a restaurant. In most Thai, Indian, Chinese and Japanese restaurants, all dishes can be made with the customer's choice of meat or tofu. This way, the unique spices, vegetables, grains and preparation styles are the dish features. Just a thought... I know that there are a number restaurants geared to our diets in the KC area; I just wish it were easier to order anywhere without being one of those picky menu-changing customers! I ate here once with a friend with Celiac's disease. She specifically asked if the sauce was gluten free and, if not, to just leave it off. The server said he would check but brought it with the sauce and didn't say anything. My friend ate the dish and was very sick later. Animal products are more easily identified than products with gluten, so we'll be back for drinks and veggies soon!

Definitely decent. I loved the artichoke bisque with its yummy goat cheese/blue cheese spread on top, but everything else was just alright. My sister loved that they have some vegetarian options, and eating hummus in a sports bar atmosphere is oddly enjoyable, but I felt largely underwhelmed. Kudos though for my buffalo chicken wrap having REAL chicken breast as opposed to some unappetizing, over-processed "tenders," whatever those actually are. If you are in the area, drive (maybe!) ten minutes across the state line to 75th Street Brewery in Waldo, a much better KC Hopps restaurant.

I can vouch for this place on a Thursday night - filled with people sampling any number of the 30 drafts or bottles that are special for a buck fifty. Seating is usually pretty tough to score if you arrive after 6, but you can usually snag a drink pretty quick. I've had the hummus trio which is served with crunchy-type pita chips, average. I've also had the Blue Moose Burger which is pretty damn good, great charbroil flavor and nicely portioned. Bull E. Vard translates this place perfectly from your mind to paper. It's your standard run of the mill KC Hopps run restaurant. I'll be back again on Thursday for some dollar50 smithwicks.

My hubbies friends LOVE this place and cheap beer Thursday. Unfortunately I think everyone in PV and beyond also loves cheap beer Thursday. If you can get there early enough to catch a table, this is your place. If you work until early evening, the cheap beer is not worth getting trampled by other patrons and evil-eyed by the servers for standing in their way.

I will preface this review by saying when I go out to eat I enjoy food that's unique, tasty, and something I can't recreate at home for half the price. I went to the Blue Moose for lunch today and won't be hurrying back any time soon. The food was fine but nothing wowed me. I agree with the previous reviews that the food is overpriced for the quality. Kind of a wannabe upscale Applebee's having an identity crisis. My friends and I started with the fried pickles, followed by the pecan encrusted goat cheese salad from their special season salad menu (say that 10 times fast). The pickles were good, but the salad sounds much fancier then it was. It was BATHED in the raspberry vinaigrette dressing. So fully drenched that once I finished the French chevre cheese and the fruit, I couldn't bring myself to eat the greens. I strongly advise ordering salad dressings on the side to prevent a perfectly ruined salad. The atmosphere was cute and I thought the fireplace gave the restaurant a nice homey feel. Might try it again for drinks and grub, but not for a casual sit down meal.

My kingdom for a Blue Moose Restaurant north of the river. We had the puff pastry brie appetizer/plate.Yum! My husband had the chicken and shrimp curry entree it comes in a Thai peanut sauce. I had to sneak a taste of that and it was delicious. I had the chicken curry salad with fresh fruit it was a little shy on the portion side of the chicken salad though I got plenty to eat. they had Bloody Mary and Mimosa specials for $3.50 that is a very reasonable price. Hubby had two Bloody Marys so I got elected to drive home and passed on the libations. I did have a virgin bloody mary because I like to try different mixes and it was a little spicy yet very tasty with the peppered rim glass, nice touch! We had to Creme Brulee for dessert , one order is perfect for two persons after this meal. We will be back. I have been disappointed in some KC Hopps Restaurant although this one gets an A+ and 5 Stars. If I had to find something wrong, I do not appreciate being ignored by the host/hostess when we are the only ones waiting to be seated. Just acknowledge me if you are busy, they were not! They had attitude and we were dressed better than 90% of the clientele. So whatever their problem was it has been told personally to the KC Hopps along with the high praise. Also if your hostess is going to clean tables and she can obviously wear whatever she wants ( a cute "short" frock) make sure when she bends down or over she does not hang out. How rude!

Not sure if it was a fluke or a change of policy, but our visit yesterday during the Chiefs game was a little disappointing because the Bloody Mary's no longer have the amazing garnish they once did ... instead they only have a small lime wedge. Still nice and spicy upon request, but a little less impressive overall.

Since I've been to 75th Street Brewery, McCoy's, Barleys and River Market Brewery (in Wichita) I felt that I had a pretty good idea what I was gonna get at Blue Moose, a pretty good meal a couple of dollars more than I wanted to spend. I was half right on that guess. For some reason the hostess said she could only seat us in the bar (I was wearing Madras shorts and a t-shirt, I think she may have been looking to hide me) even though the restaurant was only half full. While I waited for DLC, most of the people going into The Blue Moose were either old or wearing a tie so dress a little better than I was if you want to sit in the restaurant. I don't care anyway, I don't need no fancy dinin' room you uppity PV snobs. We sat down at a fine booth at the far edge of the restaurant. Our waitress took our drink orders, a Coke for DLC and 75th Street Raspberry Wheat for me (I hear you snickering). They also had a couple of other 75th Street brews on tap at Blue Moose, so if you don't want to be bombarded with hipsters wearing t-shirts and jeans but still want a 75th Street beer, then Blue Moose is the place for you. When Erin brought out our drinks she casually mentioned that beers are $1.50 all day on Thursdays. Holy Zeus' beard! What a great special. I told her Thursdays are my work from home day but I may change that to my work from Blue Moose day. At $1.50 a beer I didn't have to feel guilty about having a second one (or third or fourth for that matter). I had a panini and DLC had some sort of a sandwich, I wasn't paying attention. I did hear him order fries and got chips instead. I thought the chips were an attractive side for my panini after Erin informed us that they are indeed fried at The Blue Moose and don't come from a bag marked Lay's. Some of the fries were even soft and undercooked the way they are when you fry them at home. Some people may be grossed out about that, but I kind of like it. Like most places in Johnson County, the interior of Blue Moose was corporaty*. If you dropped me in any bar & grill in Johnson County, I wouldn't be able to tell you which one I was at unless I saw a menu or signage. Blue Moose did have a blue moose head sticking out of the wall, but that was as distinctive as it got. *I called it, corporaty is mine. corporaty (adj.) - 1. of or feeling very corporate 2. sterile, unfeeling Overall, the Blue Moose is stunningly average but has great midweek specials and a friendly waitstaff. If you absolutely positively have to be in Prairie Village stop in for a drink. Even if you are across the state line, it would be worth your while to come over to Kansas for a while and enjoy a $1.50 pint or 3. That seems like a good Kansas slogan: Kansas, $1.50 Pints.

The food is decent, but kind of overpriced for what you get. Their motto should be "Bar Food At Restaurant Prices!" I couldn't really figure this place out. Sometimes I got the feeling it's supposed to be some kind of snooty bar and grill. It's hard to describe, but the atmosphere didn't seem relaxed, more like a restaurant. And yet, it's called a bar and grill. Maybe it's just because it's in Prairie Village? Anyway, not sure if I'll be back. As others have indicated, it's kind of out of the way if you don't live there, and those PV cops love hiding along Mission Rd. to pull you over for violating the speed limit. What's the speed limit there again? 20 mph? I think a guy on a golf cart passed me on the downhill part.

I've never eaten here. I've never enjoyed a beer here. I tried. God knows I tried. My wonderful wife and I stopped in here on a Sunday morning, it was early spring, just warm enough for me to not wear a jacket. As I've mentioned in earlier reviews, I have a lot of tattoos and can tell when I'm treated differently because of them. I was treated differently here. On second thought, that's not accurate. I wasn't treated at all. We were starving. We showed up at about 11:30 am. It was slow to say the least. The table full of cute college girls with aeropostle shirts seated twenty feet from us didn't seem to have any problem getting service. For some reason, myself and the lovely woman I've been married to for almost six years received no service. I like to stress that we've been married for so long, and are completely devoted to our daughter because while I may not look like a wholesome 28 year old feller, I am a devoted family man. Anyway, we were seated immediately, but were never approached by anyone about food, or even water for that matter. Saddam Husein got all the Doritos he wanted when he was imprisoned. Two tax paying, home owning Kansas City natives were denied any kind of sustenance, in this restaurant. After about ten minutes of blaring, soulless pop music, and absolutely no sign of food in our near future, we both thought it best to leave. I'm not above making a scene, and it was almost showtime baby. We started walking out, and as we passed the hostess station, which oddly enough was surrounded by waitstaff, we were given a chorus of sarcastic "Have a nice day," and "Thanks for stopping by", Don't go here. I'm not saying boycott the entire KC HOPS line of restaurants. We live within spitting distance of the 75 street brewery and went there right after this incident and had a lovely lunch. The irony of leaving one KC Hops restaurant in disgust, and going directly to another one did not escape us. We just love 75 st brewery that much. So if you are in any way what might be considered an individual don't go here. If you are the kind of person who frequently shops at the mall, wears their hat backwards, or has ever considered themself a frat guy or a sorority chick this is your new spot. Not to say that 75 st brewery isn't full of frat guys, but the service there is better, and the beer is fresher.

The Moose is truly a hidden gem in Prairie Village. Sure, it seems like a local-owned typical family restaurant but man, its so much better than that. Think Applebee's prices with way, way better food. My favorite thing on the menu of all is the Jammin' Salmon - blackened salmon with black beans and chipotle rice. Its delicious and just spicy enough to be interesting without being overdone. I could eat that meal every day. On the salad side, make sure to check out the salmon salad. If you're not a salmon person, just get a spinach salad. Why? Because the strawberry poppy seed dressing is incredible. The pizza is also scrumptious - there aren't a whole lot of places in Kansas City with better pizza, even if its only a small part of the menu. Don't miss the BBQ pizza. The burgers, sandwiches and apps are all pretty darn good as well and prices are very reasonable - nothing is really over $20. Great bar specials too - I love the Moose. Disclaimer: I worked at the Moose for 1 1/2 years. Even though I spent a lot of hours there, I still love the food and would eat it anytime - I think that says a lot.

I love the Blue Moose because it is close - there aren't a lot of restaurants in the north PV area - so this becomes the logical choice. A lot of other locals feel the same way, so this place can get rather crowded - especially on Thursdays when they offer great beer specials. Aside from the location appeal, the bar food is actually good. The turkey pesto panini is my favorite. Another great special they have is $5 pizza lunches on Thursdays. There is also a nice size bar area for the late-night crowd.

I've been to this restaurant possibly more than any other in KC, as others have mentioned, it is pretty much the only restaurant in about a 5 square mile area. Well there is an Applebees but that is IT. So whenever I find myself in the 5 square mile dead zone, this is the place I head to. Lucky for me, its really good. Everything I have tried on the menu is good to very good. My favorite is probably the Greek Chicken wrap. Extremely flavorful and the spinach wrap lets me pretend I'm eating something healthy even though the sauce and cheese have a fat content somewhere close to lard. This restaurant has the most consistently good service of any restaurant I have been to. I have never had even a slightly bad wait staff experience. The weeknight specials are also great. I think Tuesday is 10 dollar bottle of wine night. If you find yourself with a large group and don't have to work on Wednesday, it can get ....interesting. The other specials are pretty good too. Inside is kind of dark, but not too dark. The decor I guess is upscale sports bar. There are TV's up on the ceiling everywhere, but they turn them down unless is it an obvious game time. Everything is very clean and nice. So some 4-stars I have given I hesitate to suggest to people just because something might have impressed me, but may not be for everyone. In this case, I can definitely suggest going here if you have the chance.

We called ahead on a Saturday for a party of 32 in their atrium. Two servers. They kept our drinks filled and the wait for the food was not bad (my friend did a headstand while we waited, so that was fun). They served our table of kids first--good idea. My Superfood Kale Salad was fresh and inventive--truly a SUPERFOOD & just as the Yelp review promised, the Mashed Cauliflower was creamy delicious.

Loved The Blue Moose! While visiting my family in Kansas, we went to the Blue Moose one evening for dinner. We had delicious meals! I loved the turkey burger with goat cheese and the cole slaw. I had a taste of a family member's sweet potato fries, which were wonderful, as well. Can't wait to go back next year! :-)

Gathered here Thursday evening with colleagues and students for dinner and conversation. The food was delicious, portion sizes were generous and wait staff was cordial and attentive. Fast forward two days...after searching my work bag and house frantically for my checkbook, I called the restaurant and was delighted to know they had it. BOO the BLUE MOOSE! This was my second time at the Blue Moose and I suggested to my husband that we go there while visiting family in Kansas City. It was a total disappointment. The service was very poor and the food was mediocre at best. I asked for my sandwich (three little piggies?) without pickle and the first thing I tasted when I bit into the sandwich - that's right, pickle. There were no options for non-carbonated, caffeine free drinks, so my husband had plain water. Although I had iced tea, it was only one glass and the waitress never came by to offer a refill (maybe there aren't refills). I was even surprised that when she came by to see if we wanted dessert, there was no opportunity to see if I wanted another. What is really disappointing is that this is one of my sister's favorite restaurants and she works in the area so next time I visit, she may want to go here.

Growing up in Prairie Village, we used to visit the Blue Moose as a family frequently. Something has happened to this family-friendly restaurant, and I really don't like the change. The menu has changed significantly to a lot of carb-heavy and cream-heavy dishes that are underwhelming. The service last time I went here was possibly the worst I've ever had. It took an HOUR for my panini to come out of the kitchen. I miss the old Blue Moose!

Service was good. Kinda pricey for lunch. 4 people was over $80. Pretty decent chicken and shrimp curry dish but they were skimpy with the rice. Wife loves their crab cake burger. Only odd/downer kinda thing is they charged me for asking for some bread with my dish. Really?!? An extra 50 cents on a $80 ticket!?! One of those things that's more about customer service than the 50 cents.

Consistently good food and great service makes the Blue Moose one of our favorite spots to drop in on nights we don't want to cook! I don't think I've ever had anything I didn't like here. I will give big shout outs for their soups and salads; they're always amazing. On our last visit I had the tortilla soup and a salad, a great combo. My husband sticks on the sandwich side of the menu and highly recommends the salmon club.

Coming here for drinks on a Thursday feels akin to stealing. Almost every microbrew is only $2 - !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - and macros are $1.50. The food menu is typical KC Hopps fare - good salads, sandwiches and flatbreads. I've never left disappointed.

Went there for brunch with my family on Sunday. They had a huge selection and everything tasted delicious and fresh. You were also able to create your own omelet made to order! They never ran out of food and our server did a great job of clearing our plates when we went back for seconds and thirds. Great brunch, will return!

The Blue Moose is only alright. It's not so "bad" that I'd give them less than 3 stars, but it's also certainly not good enough to deserve anything more than that. We occasionally end up here because it's reasonably close to our house, and because we have a ton of points that we accrued at the (now closed) O'Dowd's in Zona Rosa that we are slowly spending, which makes for some cheap (free) drinks/meals. That's a big plus for the Moose, but when those points are gone, I can't see us stopping in very often. I always feel "meh" about the menu. Occasionally it takes me AGES to decide on something, anything, to eat, as nothing on the menu really stands out to me. Usually I go with the small cranberry & walnut salad and add some salmon; maybe get a side of fries. On our last visit, I branched out and ordered fish and chips, and I really wish I hadn't. I didn't think it was possible to screw up fish and chips, but Blue Moose managed - the fish was way over battered, everything was over-fried, and I finally ended up freeing my fish from its batter-y prison and attempting to make the best of things. Even my husband said the batter was way over-done (both over cooked and over battered), and that the fish tasted "watery". My husband usually gets the wings, which he likes well enough, and we've also had the nachos, which are decent. If the Moose was able to screw up nachos, that would be the ultimate deal breaker!! The mimosas on Sunday aren't bad, and their wine pours are decent, though sometimes the white wines are basically room temperature, which is not how I prefer my wines. Service has always been adequate, if not very friendly or enthusiastic, and if you sit in the bar, there's pretty much always a game on. In fact, I've never sat anywhere OTHER than the bar, as the other half of the place seems like a family friendly restaurant, which doesn't really appeal to me. The patio looks nice for warm weather visits, but it does also contribute to a large number of flies (both regular and the fruit variety) in the bar area. Obviously, this is to be expected if outdoor dining is an option, but the sheer number of flies we've seen inside on multiple occasions does warrant a mention. So, there you have it. The Blue Moose is alright for an occasional visit, especially if you're spending points, but it's not somewhere I would suggest for an amazingly fun time out.

I went here to flirt with a cute guy I know who works there. So to be fair I wasn't expecting anything in particular. I'd recommend this place if you were shopping in the area, but don't go out of your way. Our server was definitely having a bad day, so it doesn't seem fair to judge our experience based on her furrowed brow and the bottle she shattered while taking our order hurriedly. The service in general did reek of a corporate atmosphere; stodgy manager with microphone coming over to ask if we'd received our spinach salad yet. If it's not on the table, probably not. Things took a little too long but the food was good. I enjoyed simple fare: chicken fingers and fries, but my spinach salad with strawberry vinagrette was delicious and refreshingly free of bacon and the usual trappings of a spinach salad. I can see what people meant about it's image being a little confusing. Is it a relaxing bar? Is it a fancy restaurant? The answer would be somewhere in between it seems. At least they had lots of Boulevard signs and Boulevard beers! I'd go back to this place to try the Artichoke Bisque next time i'm in good ol' Prairie Village. But I still think PV has nothing on KC eats. Sorry!

I live in the neighborhood around the Moose, so this review is based on about 5 years of experience. I rarely head to the Blue Moose for lunch, but have enjoyed dinner and the brunch many times. Thursday drink specials are great, and popular, but I don't typically stick around when it gets too packed. The waitstaff get to know everyone that come in as often as we do, and they take excellent care of us. My favorite items are the salads, and the grilled chicken sandwich. During brunch I tend to just hit the buffet, rather than waiting in line. While the desserts and sweet things are not at all compelling, the solid breakfast fare is what I am looking for on a Sunday morning.

The only down side is that I think everyone in town knows about it because it can get really crowded. I would recommend this location over the new one on 135th for the younger crowd.

Went to Blue Moose for the first time tonight based off a friends recommendation. The 3 1/2 stars on Yelp kinda had me worried. But this place was very much worth at least four stars. Got there about 5:00 and got seated right away. Service was good during the whole visit, even after the place got filled up. Took advantage of happy hour and got half price fried pickles and drinks. Food: very good. The fried pickles were great. I had the three little pigs sandwich and it was really good. So were the fries. Drinks: well, drink rather. My friend suggested I get one of their specialty drinks called the Black Tie Affair. Man, that thing was good! Especially at half price. I ended up getting two of them and was feeling them pretty quick. I tasted a few fruits in there. I don't know what all it had, but it was really good. All in all this place was really great. Cool atmosphere, good service and really good things that go in my mouth.

I usually ate here because it was close. They switched up their menu recently and that actually greatly improved their food offerings, which before were like lackluster apps and sandwiches. So in the olden days, we'd only come for a drink and then eat some place else. That being said the new food is good, but it's being served from the same old location and the two don't really mesh well. Food aside, they do have great drink deals most nights of the week and being walking distance from a lot of places in PV made this place an easy and fun place to just hang out.

I have been going to The Blue Moose for years and have never been disappointed. Whether it's with my kids team after a soccer game or a girls night out or a date night, Blue Moose is always a great choice. The staff is always very accommodating to a challenging guest like myself. (Yeah, I'm a "When Harry Met Sally" kinda gal..."Can I have the salad but with no onions, mushrooms or croutons and extra dressing...on the side?") I asked the bartender for a drink they haven't had on the menu for YEARS and she kindly obliged. I always get the baked brie and it is delish, a perfect summer appetizer with light crackers and a garnish that's more of a small salad, really. Yum. If you like creme bruleé do yourself a favor and get theirs...salted caramel! I'm pretty picky about desserts and they really nail that one! The renovations look great and I could happily spend hours on the comfy couches nestled around the fire pit on the patio. (If you can get people to give those spots up!!!) Interesting side note, the staff had such cool shirts on that my boyfriend asked if he could buy one and they are only $5! I got one too, a super cute woman's v-neck. So, listen to me, a 10+ year Prairie Village resident that has been going to this Blue Moose about as long...make this place your go-to. You won't regret it!

I'm very happy they have me two forks so I could use one as my iced tea spoon. I used to do radio ads for this place. It hasn't changed much. The host and server would rather be somewhere else. The menu is pretty standard restaurant fare, nothing spectacular. My wife ordered the Mac and cheese and added some veggies, I ordered the chicken fingers because we're both apparently eight years old. The food was pretty good. I would give this three and a half stars and would go higher but for the amateur aspects of service.

We ate dinner at the Moose last night... Glad to see they have made some changes. The remodel is very nice and the restaurant is always clean. The food was quite tasty and the drinks were fantastic! We sat on the patio and did appreciate having the fire pit to keep us warm!

After several years of no visits to this Blue Moose, a friend and I decided to hit it up for a change in our social travelings. I was not very excited, as I don't much care for the Prairie Village atmosphere, but we had a great evening. First, the venue itself is very warm and homey. A fireplace is always a hit with me, and the tables are placed so that if you sit in the main dining area, you kind of feel like you're in your home. The tables are spread out so that you have your own area with your group. There is also a side room (which I remembered being more of a patio, but it is now finished) that can accommodate a couple of larger groups if you need that. Finally, my favorite area is the bar. Well, the bar is generally my favorite area, but this one is warm and intimate. This Moose has about ten tap selections, none of them exciting, all of them expected in KC . . .Free State, Blvd, KC Bier, New Belgium products. The beer menu was not up to date at all, so I had to get up and go look at the tap handles to figure out what I could have. What we ate: We had a grits and slab bacon appetizer that was buttery, fatty, and decadent. I tried one teeny bite because I figured it would ruin my appetite if I had more; it was that rich! For my entree, I had a short rib grilled cheese with ghost pepperjack cheese and some kind of jam. While it was delicious, I think it was kind of small for the $12 I paid. I expected more even though I didn't need more. For dessert we had a butter cookie, and was it ever loaded with butter! Once again, decadent, and I only had one small bite. Our server, Jesse, was spot on with recommendations and service. Five stars for him! Overall, my experience was enjoyable. I was very happy that on a Saturday evening at 8 pm, the families with kids had cleared out. I am glad I gave Blue Moose another try, as I think this will be put back into our rotation of places to eat and drink.

This place is fine. Nothing so good that I have to return every day, but it's definitely higher than average on most people's standards scale. The wait staff is great; knowledgeable and kind. I will definitely return. Especially when Hunter is there. He's the bartender during the week and he's a baller. Makes everyone feel welcome, great with drinks, gave me a kid's Halloween mask for my birthday, offered me a free shot (which I declined, since I had other evening festivities to partake in). I really enjoyed chatting with him and he has recognized me every time I've returned. That's dedication, my friends.

I came here with my mom and toddler and it was great. A popular spot especially for happy hour on a Friday, but still super family friendly. We got nachos and cauliflower wings. The nachos were awesome. The cauliflower wings were good, but were sitting in a pool of grease. My toddler got a burger from the kids menu which she didn't like (more of an adult tasting burger), but our waiter was happy to give us Mac and cheese as a (free) replacement. I was happily surprised with the interior of the Blue moose. Modern and comfy.

We selected Blue Moose specifically because of its Restaurant Week menu. We arrived at 11:45am on Monday (just 3 days into the special) only to learn that they were already out of the shrimp and grits. The Bánh mì sandwich description failed to mention it was covered in cilantro and didn't contain any jalapeños, which WAS listed in the description. The service was slow and mediocre, which has been a trend our last few times here. The food is ok, but there's always an issue with something every time we come here. KC has too many great restaurants now to tolerate below average fare, poor management and inattentive service - spend your money elsewhere and leave satisfied and happy (the way eating out should be)!

This is the worst experience I have ever had here. First, one of the martini glasses had a chip, the waiter failed to notice, when it was clearly obvious. I got salt on my drink rim when it clearly says in the menu it's sugar. I waited for about 15 minutes just for him to come outside. The waiter wasn't personable and very inattentive. We were served more by other waiters, then our own. A manager never came out and we never received an apology once, I will never come back here.

This was some of the worst service I've ever had. We had a party of about ten, so we made sure to call ahead and let them know we were coming. When we get there at 11:05 I tried to order off of their "Late Night" Menu. Which is supposed to go from 11:00-Close. I was then informed that they had already turned the oven off. I could either have humus or chips and salsa. The server was EXTREMELY rude. Since having customers in the establishment is clearly only an inconvenience for your servers, don't worry about my business coming back.

I ate here for lunch today and it was great! I had never been before and met here for business. The restaurant was pretty full, but the noise level was still low which was really nice. Our server was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. I had the build your own mac and cheese with grilled chicken added. The mac and cheese was awesome, and I am very picky! The grilled chicken was well seasoned, well cooked and had great flavor. Also, it was cut into small strips which made it much easier to eat(vs other places that put a whole chicken piece in your bowl for you to figure out how to cut). My coworker had the turkey burger and had a side of mashed cauliflower. She went on and on about how good the cauliflower was. She said it is the best she has had. She also enjoyed her turkey burger. Another person with us had the tortilla soup, and she nearly licked her bowl clean she liked it so much. She said it was excellent. The manager(I believe) stopped by our table to see how things were going also. She was very nice, and I appreciate that she took the time to stop by. She even cleared some plates that we had recently finished. I don't live very close, but next time I am in the area I will be coming back! Four stars vs 5 because I will only give 5 to places I have had several good experiences at(ie I must have visited more than once). With more visits like this one I would easily change my review to 5 stars.

Brunch several times & good food but something always wrong . Out of decaf , no forks, out of something on the buffet and never replaced. Decided to try an evening meal. Good food but terrible service. Ordered entrees & salad. Waited forever. Finally flagged down a woman who said she was the hostess . She said she would bring salad. More waiting. Finally ENTREES showed up. Still no salad. Flagged down hostess again & told her to cancel salad. Manager stopped by & apologized. There are too many good restaurants in this area to go back to the Blue Moose again. The sad thing is that this is a locally owned restaurant and we go out of our way to patronized locally owned places but we are giving up on the Blue Moose.

Let's just say it'll do in a pinch. Six of us stopped in for a quick bite and the different menu items got different ratings. The salad with chicken got a thumbs up, the burgers were mediocre (too dry and the buns are simply awful) though the tomatoes, onions , lettuce were very fresh, the fries were good and not over salted or greasy, the beer selection was good and our server was excellent. Interestingly, the place was not full at 8:00 p.m. on a Saturday night but it may have been baseball related. K.C. Was playing and many probably stayed home to watch with a pizza delivery. For most of us, it wouldn't be worth a second visit. Killed by thick, dry, cold burger buns. A shame.
